Utah Decides Healthcare to Hold Statewide Public Hearings

Initiative organizers invite all Utahns to attend regional hearings.

SALT LAKE CITY –Utah Decides Healthcare will hold seven public hearings throughout Utah this week to review its citizens’ initiative petition. Utah Decides Healthcare invites all Utahns to participate in its hearings to learn more about the initiative to ensure access to healthcare for all individuals and families in Utah with incomes below 138 percent of the federal poverty line (less than $16,642 for individual and less than $33,900 for a family of four). The initiative brings local control to the healthcare debate, allowing Utah voters to decide what is best for their families.

This measure will slightly raise the sales tax on non-food items in Utah from 4.7 percent to 4.85 percent—about 3 cents for every $20—to cover the cost of bringing medical care to tens of thousands of Utahns, some for the very first time.
